About the position

The position of Head Coach is for the purpose of organizing and conducting the athletic program to meet the needs of the participants, by providing them worthwhile learning experiences. The Head Volleyball Coach will exhibit exceptional integrity and character at all times, act as a positive role model in the school and community, and cultivate a program culture that demands respect between participants.

Responsibilities

  • Actively recruit students within the school to participate in the program.
  • Collaborate with and follow direction of the Athletic Director.
  • Organize the specific athletic program consistent with District, OSAA, and Mt. Hood Conference objectives.
  • Adhere to all interscholastic policies, rules, and procedures.
  • Manage all aspects of the secondary program, including practice schedules and routines.
  • Determine the system of play to be used.
  • Develop and implement an off-season program for athletes.
  • Support the academic achievement of student/athletes.
  • Oversee the assistant coaches in the secondary athletic program.
  • Actively participate in and support the youth program that feeds the secondary program.
  • Demonstrate proper active supervision during all scheduled activities.
  • Meet with players and parents to cover participation expectations.
  • Commit to continued professional development and improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director for transportation and finances.
  • Accountable for expenditures and fundraising.
  • Follow District procedures for handling program finances.
  • Responsible for the care, distribution, and collection of equipment and supplies.
  • Communicate with athletes respectfully.
  • Report participant injuries to the trainer.
  • Develop and maintain a positive rapport with all stakeholders.
  • Support the Athletic Director in recommending assistant coaches.
  • Attend all required meetings.
  • Assume responsibility for the conduct of assistant coaches.
  • Report any behavior that endangers safety to the Athletic Director.
  • Maintain integrity of confidential information.
  • Advocate for multi-sport athletes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in coaching with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of the sport, coaching techniques, and student supervision.
  • Skills to effectively communicate in verbal and written modes.
  • Strong leadership, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Significant physical abilities including lifting/carrying and visual acuity.
  • Ability to speak a second language preferred.
