About the position

The Health Actuary - Associate I position at Mercer Health & Benefits, LLC involves managing client projects focused on health benefits strategies for employers. The role includes financial projections, plan design optimization, and serving as a primary financial contact for clients. The associate will also develop underwriting and actuarial skills while working on various health care plan designs and cost factors.

Responsibilities

  • Manage client projects focusing on employers' health benefits strategies.
  • Create deliverables and provide direction to analysts and associates.
  • Serve as one of the primary financial client contacts.
  • Present deliverables to clients in partnership with senior team members.
  • Develop underwriting and actuarial skills related to health care plan design.
  • Price medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision plan designs using proprietary tools.
  • Analyze vendor renewals and plan experience to estimate future plan costs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and actuarial software tools.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fellowship or Associate designation from a recognized actuarial society.
  • Experience in health care or employee benefits consulting.
  • Knowledge of health care regulations and compliance.
