About the position

The Health Assistant at Youth & Family Services, Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting the health component of the Rapid City Head Start program. This full-time position involves working closely with children and their families, assisting the nurse with health-related tasks, maintaining health records, and ensuring compliance with various health standards. The role requires effective communication and cooperation with children, staff, and parents, as well as flexibility and dependability in a non-smoking work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Comply and implement all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including Head Start and Licensing Standards.
  • Assist the nurse in all assigned aspects of the health component.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and trusting relationship with children and their families.
  • Maintain accurate records for each child, including data entry and completion of appropriate documents and referrals.
  • Assist in the completion of the Program Information Report (PIR).
  • Maintain fully stocked health supplies in the classroom and for Home Visitors.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding information about children, families, and other staff members.
  • Assist in all assigned grant activities, including in-kind and United Way.
  • Assist with home visits or conferences and staffings throughout the year when appropriate.
  • Teach CPR/First Aid classes to Head Start staff.
  • Work as Teacher Infant Toddler CDA part-time during the summer hours.

Requirements

  • Certified Nurse Assistant certificate preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license and maintain current auto liability insurance.
  • Ability to communicate and cooperate effectively with children, staff, and parents.
  • Experience working with children, especially from diverse and low-income backgrounds.
  • Punctuality, dependability, and flexibility are essential.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in health-related fields or programs.
  • Knowledge of CDC procedures and guidelines.
