About the position

The Health Benefits and Wellness Manager at The University of Kansas Health System is responsible for managing teams of benefit and wellness professionals to support employee health and well-being. This senior leadership role focuses on developing competitive benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, and wellness initiatives, while aligning with the organization's HR strategies. The manager will collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance employee benefits and wellness offerings, ensuring they are effective, cost-efficient, and competitive in the market.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of benefit professionals and a separate team of wellness professionals.
  • Analyze benefit options and predict future costs to support management's decision-making.
  • Maintain benefit records and resolve employee questions regarding benefit policies and procedures.
  • Administer and manage the employee benefits plan, including health, dental, and vision plans.
  • Research and recommend cost containment strategies for benefits programs.
  • Develop and implement organizational employee wellness initiatives.
  • Create and report on metrics to measure the success of wellness programs and committees.
  • Lead benefits committee meetings and present recommendations to senior leaders.
  • Partner with the communications team for employee-facing communications regarding benefits.
  • Plan and execute the Annual Enrollment process for employee benefits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 3 or more years of experience in health and welfare, and wellness program strategy, design, and administration.
  • 3 or more years of supervisory experience in benefits management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of market health and welfare benefits and wellness best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both in mass and personal formats.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience working for a hospital or health system as a benefits subject matter expert.
  • 10 or more years of benefits and/or human resources experience.
  • Certifications such as Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEB).
