About the position

The Health Care Administrator II position at SIU Medicine is primarily focused on performing administrative duties and coordinating operations and personnel related to clinic and administrative support for the Department of Neurology within the Neuroscience Institute. This role is essential in ensuring that patient care is delivered efficiently, safely, and at a high quality. The administrator will supervise and monitor the work of all reports, serving as a resource for staff, faculty, and administration regarding procedures and policies. This includes directing the compilation and maintenance of procedure manuals and informational materials. In collaboration with department managers and administration, the Health Care Administrator II will develop and implement action plans to enhance daily operations. The role involves conducting major budget and feasibility studies that affect multiple areas within the department, as well as managing and tracking analytical reports that include statistical information related to revenue cycles and patient billing data. The administrator will also serve as a liaison to Patient Billing and Medical Records, representing the Department of Neurology in various institutional and external meetings, committees, and conferences. Regular meetings with Department of Neurology leadership will be held to review operational issues, solve problems, monitor progress towards goals, and share relevant information. The administrator will initiate and assist with managed care credentialing for all department providers, maintain managed care files, and work with department managers to design training materials and develop strategies for improving workplace environments. Additionally, the role includes participating in recruitment efforts, conducting interviews, and assisting with hiring decisions for various positions within the department. The Health Care Administrator II will also consult with requisitioning personnel to provide information on items requested and coordinate inter-departmental purchases to prevent duplication and standardize purchases. Overall, this position plays a critical role in the operational success of the Department of Neurology.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor the work of all reports to ensure high-quality patient care delivery.
  • Serve as a resource to staff, faculty, and administration regarding procedures and policies.
  • Direct the compilation and maintenance of procedure manuals and informational materials.

  • Represent the Department of Neurology in institutional and external meetings, committees, and conferences.
  • Meet regularly with Department of Neurology leadership to review operational issues and monitor progress towards goals.
  • Initiate and assist with managed care credentialing for all department providers.
  • Maintain managed care files including demographics, licenses, and CME.
  • Work with department managers to design training materials and develop strategies for improving workplace environments.
  • Participate in department recruitment efforts, including developing position descriptions and conducting interviews.
  • Consult with requisitioning personnel to provide information on requested items and coordinate inter-departmental purchases.
  • Conduct major cost, space utilization, and other studies impacting multiple units and provide recommendations to higher administration.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in hospital administration, health administration, business administration, or a similar area of study.
  • Three years of responsible administrative experience comparable to Health Care Administrator I.
  • One year of hospital/medical center/health care administrative work experience.
  • College coursework leading to a major in hospital administration, health administration, or business administration.
