About the position
The Health Care Assistant (CNA) position at Huntsman Cancer Hospital involves providing direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The role includes assisting patients with daily activities, supporting their comfort and safety, and performing various indirect care tasks. The position is integral to enhancing patient well-being and requires effective communication and collaboration with healthcare teams.
Responsibilities
- Assists the patient with feeding, drinking, ambulating, grooming, toileting, dressing, and socializing.
- Reinforces or assists in educating and teaching patients/significant others as delegated by the professional care provider.
- Collects, reports, and documents data related to direct patient care activities.
- Assists with indirect patient care activities such as providing a clean and safe patient care environment, companion care, and transporting patients.
- Performs unit-specific duties and additional clerical duties as needed, including stocking supplies.
- Provides communication to hospital staff, physicians, patients, families, and visitors.
- Processes paper orders during downtime and enters 'downtime occurrence order' in patient records.
- May process electronic requests for medical treatments and tests and retrieve patient test results.
- May schedule patient appointments and maintain patient records on the unit.
- May observe cardiac monitors and notify nursing and medical staff of any abnormal heart rhythms.
Requirements
- Current certification as a Nursing Assistant with the State of Utah or completion of the first round of clinical in an approved nursing education program.
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- For nursing program enrollees, must obtain RN license within three months of program completion.
