About the position

Broughton Hospital is currently accepting applications for Health Care Technician (HCT) Lead for second shift. The HCT Lead serves as an educator, leader, role model, and mentor for unlicensed nursing staff at the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and Nursing Supervision. This role is instrumental in addressing episodes of challenging patient behavior proactively and therapeutically. The HCT will focus on using verbal de-escalation techniques and principles of trauma informed care, understanding both are essential to avoiding Emergency Restrictive Intervention (ERIs.) The primary goal is early, individualized interventions to assist patients experiencing emotional distress before the situation escalates to a behavioral crisis.

Responsibilities

  • Be assigned throughout the hospital on patient care units and able to respond quickly when needed.
  • Support the hospital's goals of providing a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.
  • Act as additional resource dedicated to supporting unit-base staff members and promoting a safe work environment.
  • Serve as leading member of Therapeutic Response Team (TRT).
  • Model, support and reinforce using therapeutic verbal de-escalation techniques and principles during episodes of challenging patient behaviors.
  • Collaborate with the Staff Development Department to assist with new employee orientation and leading select in-service trainings for clinical staff.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience working in a Psychiatric, IDD, Substance Abuse, or Neuro Medical facility.
  • High school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of closely related work experience.
  • Current North Carolina NA I or NA II listing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Five (5) years of experience working as a CNA in a psychiatric setting.
  • Experience training/mentoring new staff members.
