About the position

The Health Career Ladder Academic Coach at Western University of Health Sciences is responsible for developing tailored curriculum for various student groups within the Saturday Academy Program. This role emphasizes the use of the 5Es teaching model and NGSS crosscutting concepts to create engaging educational experiences. The coach will also conduct curriculum coaching sessions for student volunteers, ensuring alignment with curriculum goals and fostering a supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop six engaging lessons for assigned student groups using the 5Es teaching model.
• Incorporate NGSS crosscutting concepts into lesson plans as guided by the Director of Health Career Ladder.
• Conduct a minimum of one coaching session ahead of each Saturday Academy event with WesternU student volunteers.
• Guide students in developing health sciences-related activities connected to the 5Es teaching model.
• Attend at least two Saturday Academy sessions each semester.
• Work with the Director of the Health Career Ladder to review pre- and post-cumulative exams for participating students.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in education, science, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
• Proven experience in curriculum development, particularly for early childhood education.
• Familiarity with the 5Es teaching model and crosscutting concepts in science education.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Previous experience working with diverse student populations is a plus.

• Knowledge of effective teaching strategies, particularly interactive and inquiry-based methods.
