About the position

The Research Scientist position at Kaiser Permanente Southern California focuses on health equity and implementation research aimed at improving the health and well-being of diverse communities. The role involves designing, developing, and directing research projects that align with healthcare priorities, while also obtaining funding and contributing to the scientific community through publications and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, obtains funding for, and directs research projects consistent with institutional, state, and national health care priorities.
  • Prepares grant proposals, internal reports, and manuscripts for publication in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
  • Provides service to the scientific community by reviewing manuscripts and serving on editorial boards and grant review panels.
  • Consults with local, state, and national non-profit and government agencies as needed.
  • Makes presentations to the Department of Research & Evaluation (R&E) and Southern California Permanente Medical Group (SCPMG).
  • Presents papers at national and international scientific meetings.
  • Serves on and may chair departmental and SCPMG committees based on experience and expertise.
  • Mentors postdoctoral fellows and junior research scientists when opportunities permit.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent in health services research, implementation and improvement science, systems science, epidemiology, nursing, psychology, or a related field, or MD with a master's degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to design and conduct culturally sensitive research.
