The Health Equity Postdoctoral Research Fellow position at Harvard University is a unique opportunity for early-career researchers dedicated to advancing global health equity. This fellowship is housed within the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, which emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding and addressing the complex social, economic, and political factors that influence health care delivery worldwide. The department recognizes that traditional medical models alone cannot fully address the barriers to health, such as poverty and inequality. Therefore, it integrates insights from various disciplines, including anthropology, sociology, and implementation science, to develop effective interventions and systems for improving health care delivery. Fellows will spend two years in the department, focusing on an original research project of their own design, particularly in low-income settings of the Global South. Each fellow will be paired with a mentor from the department who shares research interests relevant to the fellow's project. This mentorship is designed to support the fellow's professional development and career trajectory. In addition to a competitive stipend, fellows will have access to research funding and professional development resources, enabling them to enhance their research capabilities and academic profiles. The department's senior faculty lead research in diverse areas, including digital technology for health care, the ecology of poverty, health care delivery systems, and the health impacts of climate change. The fellowship aims to cultivate a new generation of academic leaders equipped to conduct impactful research that promotes health equity through the lens of social medicine. Fellows will also have opportunities to engage in departmental seminars and career-development workshops, fostering a collaborative and enriching academic environment.
