The Health Equity Postdoctoral Research Fellow position at Harvard Medical School's Department of Global Health and Social Medicine is designed for early-career researchers committed to advancing global health equity. This fellowship, established in memory of Paul Farmer, emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in addressing the complex social, economic, and political factors that influence health care delivery. The department recognizes that traditional medical models alone cannot fully tackle the barriers posed by poverty, inequality, and limited access to resources. Therefore, fellows will engage in original research projects that explore these issues through various disciplinary lenses, including anthropology, sociology, and implementation science. Fellows will spend two years in the department, focusing on research in low-income settings of the Global South. Each fellow will be paired with a mentor from the department who shares research interests relevant to the fellow's project. This mentorship will provide guidance and support as fellows navigate their research endeavors. In addition to a stipend, fellows will have access to research funding and professional development opportunities, allowing them to enhance their skills and expand their academic networks. The department's senior faculty lead research in diverse areas such as digital technology for health care, the ecology of poverty, health care delivery systems, and the health impacts of climate change. The fellowship aims to cultivate a new generation of academic leaders equipped to conduct impactful research that promotes health equity. Fellows will participate in departmental seminars and career-development workshops, fostering an environment of collaboration and learning within the Harvard Medical School community.
