About the position

The HIM Data Analyst at MD Anderson Cancer Center is responsible for evaluating patient health information to ensure its accuracy and appropriateness for inclusion in health records. This role directly impacts the quality of patient health information and involves tasks such as chart corrections, deficiency tracking, and forms management. The analyst serves as the initial point of contact for electronic health record corrections and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to enhance the integrity of medical records.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patient health information for accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for electronic health record (EHR) corrections.
  • Analyze and identify root causes of data discrepancies and determine action plans.
  • Compile weekly reports and statistical data related to health information management.
  • Identify trends or issues pertinent to the operations and integrity of the EMPI.
  • Participate in a rotational on-call schedule to assist with linking patient Medical Record Numbers.
  • Lead discussions on clinical and functional design with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Collaborate with staff at the source system level to coordinate updates and merges to medical records.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop detailed content design documents.
  • Format, design, and build relevant content into online forms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Health Information Management, or related field.
  • Three years of health information management or medical records management experience.
  • Experience with chart corrections, overlays, deficiency tracking, and forms management is preferred.
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification is preferred.
