About the position

As a Health Scientist (Extramural Research) at the Department of Health and Human Services, you will play a pivotal role in managing and monitoring the scientific progress of assigned research awards. This position requires you to provide programmatic, scientific, and technical assistance related to the conduct of those awards, ensuring that the research aligns with the agency's public health objectives. You will serve as the Scientific Program Officer responsible for overseeing the full range of research grants administered by the Extramural Research Program Office (ERPO). Your responsibilities will include analyzing administrative processes and agency programs, as well as planning and developing workshops, conferences, and symposia to discuss the status of research in relevant areas of interest. In this role, you will also act as a senior adviser, formulating and administering plans and policies designed to meet critical program objectives. Your expertise will be essential in evaluating and implementing policies in scientific research related to grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and other public health programs and activities. This position is crucial for advancing the CDC's mission to protect public health and improve health outcomes across the nation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor the scientific progress of assigned research awards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in a field related to medical, health sciences, or allied sciences.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, including evaluating and implementing policies in scientific research related to grants and public health programs.
