About the position

The Health Support Technician OPS position at the Northeast Florida State Hospital involves performing technical health support duties, primarily focused on the collection and processing of blood specimens. The role requires collaboration with various sections within the state facilities, independent judgment, and attention to detail. The technician will also assist with clerical duties in the laboratory and manage reference laboratory services.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical health support duties in the collection and processing of blood specimens.
• Draw blood from individuals for laboratory testing, ensuring proper techniques and post-phlebotomy care.
• Order reference tests and process specimens for delivery to reference laboratories.
• Retrieve and sort laboratory results, notifying technologists of critical values.
• Track inventory of laboratory supplies and order as needed.
• Perform phlebotomy procedures, including verifying identification and preparing venipuncture sites.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness and assist with clerical duties such as ordering supplies and maintaining logs.
• Schedule and perform EKGs, ensuring patient dignity and privacy.

Requirements

• One year of experience in providing nursing or direct patient care services in a medical setting.
• Knowledge of basic medical and pharmaceutical terminology.
• Skill in using medical instruments and testing equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively and maintain working relationships.
