About the position

The Health Supports Specialist role at Johnson County Government involves providing skilled nursing tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This position is essential for conducting nursing assessments, administering medical care, and educating staff on various medical procedures and protocols. The specialist will also participate in multi-disciplinary teams to promote healthy lifestyles and ensure proper medication administration and medical record maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct quarterly nursing assessments and provide emergency medical care.
  • Assess for illness and monitor chronic disease processes.
  • Administer first aid and injections, assess skin breakdown, and provide wound care.
  • Teach staff how to perform delegated nursing tasks such as catheter care, ostomy care, and feeding tube management.
  • Provide education on medication administration to unlicensed staff and ensure legal charting is performed correctly.
  • Educate on infection control and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to enhance healthy lifestyles.
  • Track the use of durable medical equipment (DME) and maintain adequate stock.
  • Facilitate on-site clinics, including scheduling and maintaining medical records post-appointments.
  • Travel to perform site visits and verify proper medication administration procedures.
  • Support staff in personal care techniques and demonstrate physical positioning to maintain skin integrity.
  • Assist individuals in setting up medical appointments and accompany them as needed.
  • Serve in an on-call rotation to ensure 24-hour nursing services and facilitate ER visits.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • Kansas Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license is required.
  • May require KS/MO driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year of nursing experience is preferred.
