About the position

The Health System Specialist (Executive Assistant to Associate Director) position at the Department of Veterans Affairs is designed to support the executive planning functions of the Assistant Medical Center Director. This role involves strategic planning, budgetary oversight, and administrative support for various service lines, ensuring effective communication and coordination within the executive leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Support the strategic planning and direction of administrative functions.
  • Assist the Executive Leadership Team in planning, organizing, evaluating, advising, and coordinating administrative activities.
  • Advise top management on matters impacted by programmatic/policy changes.
  • Formulate and adapt policies and procedures.
  • Analyze program development proposals to ensure optimal resource use.
  • Guide service leadership in program reviews and managerial techniques.
  • Make recommendations to top management based on data analysis.
  • Prepare various reports for the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Perform administrative duties such as event scheduling and special projects.
  • Prepare issue briefs for the VISN and VA Central Office.
  • Ensure timely follow-up on issues raised during meetings.
  • Prepare documents for signatures and presentations for management.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must meet time-in-grade requirements for GS-11 or GS-12 positions.
  • Specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 or GS-12 level in federal service.
  • Knowledge of healthcare administration principles and practices.
  • Ability to analyze data and make recommendations for program improvements.
