About the position

The Health Systems Administrator (Associate Director) position at the Department of Veterans Affairs is a temporary promotion opportunity for a GS-0670-15 role, primarily focused on overseeing the operations of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Las Vegas, NV. The incumbent will be responsible for managing administrative and allied health services, ensuring compliance with policies, and leading operational improvements to enhance patient care services. This role requires strong leadership and strategic planning skills, as well as the ability to coordinate with various stakeholders to meet the objectives of the Medical Center.

Responsibilities

  • Share responsibility with the Executive Leadership Team for the direction and management of the Medical Center.
  • Directly oversee all administrative operation support services.
  • Act as the Acting Medical Center Director in the absence of the Director.
  • Coordinate and develop customer and stakeholder support to meet Medical Center objectives.
  • Determine operational services and program goals, developing plans to achieve them in line with the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN).
  • Evaluate operational services goals and make necessary adjustments to improve patient care delivery.
  • Establish local policies impacting facility operations and ensure compliance with program policies and procedures.
  • Administer a management reporting system for decision-making regarding facility operations.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Current federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements for GS-15 level.
  • Specialized experience equivalent to GS-14 level in the Federal Service, directly related to health system administration.
  • Management ability to delegate authority and oversee programs.
  • Knowledge of healthcare delivery systems, regulations, and standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as an Associate Medical Center Director or similar role within the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Completion of a VHA Healthcare Leadership Development Program.
  • Fellowship with the American College of Healthcare Executives or eligibility for the Board of Governors Exam in Healthcare Management.
