About the position

The Health Technician (Pedorthist) position at the Department of Veterans Affairs involves independent assessment and treatment planning for patients with various levels of disease and disability. The incumbent will develop and implement treatment plans, follow up to validate outcomes, and refine plans to enhance patient compliance and satisfaction. This role requires collaboration with physicians and allied health professionals to provide specialized pedorthic care.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and interact with physicians, allied health professionals, patients, and caregivers to develop pedorthic treatment plans.
  • Provide complex patient analyses in accordance with established procedures for patients with unusual or multiple complex conditions.
  • Assess patients for indications and contraindications for pedorthic devices.
  • Discuss assessments with physicians to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Analyze the potential use of new technologies in designing pedorthic devices for complex medical conditions.
  • Take scans and measurements for advanced devices, prepare and modify casts, and repair and fabricate advanced devices.
  • Provide patient and caregiver education for advanced devices.
  • Recognize physical abnormalities and complications with potentially life-threatening implications.
  • Privileged credentialed clinicians to provide pedorthic care based on ABC privileging requirements.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Board certified in pedorthics by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics (ABC) or credentialed by the Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC).
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a clinical setting related to pedorthics or orthotics.
  • Knowledge of patient-related psychology and foundational sciences related to pedorthic treatment.
