About The Position

The position involves collecting and processing clinical laboratory specimens to ensure public safety and support the reentry of individuals into communities. The role is critical in maintaining the security of the correctional institution while performing laboratory-related tasks, including specimen collection and processing, and assisting laboratory staff.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service.
• Experience in the collection of patient specimens via venipuncture and/or capillary techniques.
• Experience in instructing patients on proper collection of specimens such as stool and urine for laboratory analysis.
• Experience in specimen processing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and mixing.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• Ability to communicate orally.

Responsibilities

• Collect clinical laboratory specimens (human blood) for testing requested by a clinician.
• Instruct patients on proper collection of specimens such as stool and urine for laboratory analysis.
• Process and transport specimens, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and mixing.
• Assist laboratory staff with ordering entry into a computerized laboratory information system and preparing laboratory-related paperwork.
• Maintain security of the institution as a primary responsibility.
