About the position

The Health Technician - Telehealth Clinical position at the Department of Veterans Affairs involves supporting telehealth services by preparing clinical environments, managing telehealth technologies, and facilitating patient encounters through video conferencing. The role is essential in ensuring safe and effective delivery of care to veterans through telehealth modalities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the clinical environment, including medical and telecommunications equipment for clinical examinations and treatments.
  • Serve as a telepresenter during clinical video telehealth encounters, establishing and maintaining video conferencing connections.
  • Capture images and collect data for store and forward telehealth clinical encounters.
  • Ensure patient care is delivered safely by following procedures for inventory management and cleaning of clinical equipment.
  • Complete standardized clinical questionnaires and templates within scope of training.
  • Protect patient privacy by complying with information security and patient privacy regulations.
  • Receive and schedule requests for telehealth appointments using an electronic scheduling system.
  • Screen patients for telehealth modality and refer those who do not meet established criteria.
  • Monitor and maintain schedules of rooms, patients, technologies, and clinical providers.
  • Provide patient education using approved materials.
  • Communicate effectively with clinical and administrative staff at local and remote sites.
  • Configure, install, troubleshoot, and perform minor maintenance on telehealth technology.
  • Manage telehealth technologies, including inventory and maintenance work orders.
  • Provide education and training to veterans and staff on telehealth technologies.
  • Maintain knowledge of telehealth-related technologies and computer systems.
  • Arrange and complete test video calls with veterans to prepare them for clinical encounters.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • One year of experience in a healthcare field or four academic years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items.
