About The Position

The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) in the Labor & Delivery department at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center plays a crucial role in providing clerical and secretarial support to the nursing unit. This position is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of the unit, which is dedicated to delivering high-quality care to mothers and newborns. The HUC will work closely with a team of skilled professionals, including Registered Nurses, OB Surgical Technicians, and Certified Nurse Aides, to facilitate patient care and maintain efficient unit operations. The Labor & Delivery unit is a specialized area that handles a significant number of high-risk pregnancies, and the HUC will be responsible for various administrative tasks that support the clinical staff. This includes managing patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, as well as ensuring that all necessary supplies and equipment are available and properly maintained. The HUC will also be tasked with transcribing physician orders, scheduling patient tests and appointments, and organizing patient charts to ensure that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date. In addition to these responsibilities, the HUC will serve as a communication hub for the unit, answering phones, relaying messages, and assisting physicians in obtaining necessary reports from other departments. The role requires a keen attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment. The HUC will also be expected to adhere to safety standards and participate in quality improvement initiatives, contributing to the overall goal of providing excellent patient-centered care.
