About the position

The Healthcare IT Project Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities of designated IT projects within the healthcare sector. This role involves managing projects from inception to completion, ensuring that goals are met within specified time frames and budgets. The incumbent will work closely with internal divisions and external agencies to implement or upgrade healthcare operational and business applications, hardware, networks, and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and reviews project proposals or plans to determine time frame, funding requirements, and procedures for accomplishing projects.
  • Manages or oversees the implementation and integration of assigned projects from inception to user sign-off.
  • Acts as liaison between users, designers, technical personnel, and vendors.
  • Establishes work plans and staffing for each phase of the project.
  • Confers with project staff to outline work plans and assign duties and responsibilities.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within budget.
  • Prepares status reports and modifies schedules or plans as required.
  • Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and resolve problems.
  • Attends planning and construction meetings.
  • Coordinates technical aspects of information technology and telecommunications projects.
  • Meets with users to determine needs and establish performance criteria.
  • Oversees all aspects of day-to-day management of projects, including the work of internal and external subcontractors.
  • Maintains project information database for all projects and performs general upkeep of records and reports.
  • Participates in planning and formulation of design alternatives and solutions for projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, Health Care Administration, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field.
  • Five years of full-time experience as a project manager or health systems analyst leading and managing projects.
  • Knowledge of health information exchanges and standard healthcare message formats.
  • Strong principles and practices of information technology project management.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with CalAIM and Tapestry projects.
  • Familiarity with Epic systems.
  • Outpatient/ambulatory experience.
