About the position

The Healthcare Reinsurance Underwriter is responsible for pricing quotes and analyzing contracts based on claims experience and the characteristics of reinsurance programs. This role involves assessing risk factors for new enrollments, annual renewals, and amendments to reinsurance programs, ensuring compliance with established underwriting policies and standards. The underwriter will also analyze market data and financial conditions to improve risk management and support decision-making regarding benefits and rates.

Responsibilities

• Price quotes and analyze the structure of contracts based on claims experience.
• Identify when to decline quotes that do not fit strategy and risk structure.
• Analyze risk factors for new enrollment, annual renewals, and amendments of reinsurance programs.
• Analyze associated policies, guidelines, and market data to improve risk management.
• Prepare reports and provide rationale and support regarding underwriting results and financial activity.
• Calculate rates and employ different financial arrangements.
• Identify questionable claim patterns and develop recommendations for adaptation of pricing.
• Support internal initiatives including fraud detection and product development efforts.
• Complete renewals and prospect quotes in accordance with production and timeliness standards.
• Communicate recommendations of policy adaptation to accommodate client-specific situations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Business, Computer Science or other qualitative analysis discipline.
• 5 - 7 years of experience in Underwriting of Managed Care Reinsurance, Provider Excess or Healthcare reinsurance programs.
• Skilled interaction with various internal departments and external stakeholders.
• Ability to use applicable computer systems and electronic tools.
• Ability to work independently and manage projects of varying complexity.
• Demonstrated understanding of corporate and departmental goals.
• Adherence to ethical business practices and privacy policies.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and negotiation skills.
• Excellent math aptitude for analysis.
