About the position

The Healthy Lifestyles - Group Exercise Instructor at the Torrance YMCA is responsible for leading group exercise classes in a safe and engaging environment. This role focuses on promoting member wellness and engagement through effective teaching methods in various fitness areas, including strength training, Pilates, and spin. The instructor will create a welcoming atmosphere, build community among participants, and provide motivational support to help members achieve their health goals.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct group classes in a safe and enjoyable environment.
  • Plan and lead exercise sessions in assigned fitness areas such as aerobics, yoga, and weight training.
  • Demonstrate proper form and techniques to participants.
  • Build small communities by facilitating connections among members.
  • Develop positive relationships with participants and provide motivational support.
  • Set up and monitor class equipment, ensuring it remains in working condition.
  • Respond promptly to member inquiries and needs.
  • Record the number of participants per class taught.

Requirements

  • Current CPR certification.
  • Foundations of YMCA Group Exercise or equivalent certification (ACE, AFAA, or ACSM).
  • Strong character values and communication skills.
  • Previous experience as a fitness instructor preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in leading group exercise classes.
  • Knowledge of various fitness training methods.
