About the position

HeartCorps is an initiative aimed at driving health equity in rural communities through public health service. This full-time service position offers individuals the opportunity to gain valuable experience while working towards equitable health outcomes in their communities, specifically through health education and support related to cardiovascular health.

Responsibilities

  • Serve full-time Monday - Friday (41.25 hours per week) with occasional evening or weekend hours.
  • Deliver health education and support to patients/community members on heart health topics including cardiovascular disease, smoking cessation, nutrition, and chronic diseases.
  • Assist with public health surveys, including recruiting participants and tracking data.
  • Plan and conduct local health skill-building workshops, health fairs, and community conversations.
  • Support patients in initiating and conducting Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring.
  • Host Hands-Only CPR demonstrations for community members.
  • Engage local organizations to develop resources for chronic disease interventions and overall health services.
  • Participate in AmeriCorps pre-service orientation and member development meetings.

Requirements

  • Must be a United States citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien, at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the host site and community activities, with a valid driver's license and minimum automobile liability insurance coverage.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Customer and solution-focused, good listeners, non-judgmental, open-minded, and resourceful.
  • Must satisfy National Service Criminal History Check eligibility criteria.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a health aide or coursework in public health, health communications, health promotion, or health sciences.
