About the position

HeartCorps is an initiative aimed at driving health equity in rural communities through public health service. This full-time service position offers individuals the opportunity to gain valuable experience while working towards equitable health outcomes in their communities, specifically through the Lakes & Prairies Community Action Partnership, Inc. in Moorhead, MN, starting February 10, 2025.

Responsibilities

• Serve full-time Monday - Friday (41.25 hours per week) with occasional evening or weekend hours.
• Deliver health education and support patients/community members on heart health topics including cardiovascular disease, smoking cessation, nutrition, and chronic diseases.
• Assist with public health surveys, including recruiting participants and tracking data.
• Plan and conduct local health skill-building workshops, health fairs, and community conversations.
• Support patients in initiating and conducting Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring.
• Host Hands-Only CPR demonstrations for community members.
• Engage local organizations to develop resources for chronic disease interventions and overall health services.
• Participate in AmeriCorps pre-service orientation and member development meetings.

Requirements

• Must be a United States citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien, at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Reliable transportation to and from the host site and community activities, with a valid driver's license and minimum automobile liability insurance.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Customer and solution-focused, good listeners, non-judgmental, open-minded, and resourceful.
• Must satisfy National Service Criminal History Check eligibility criteria.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience as a health aide or coursework in public health, health communications, health promotion, or health sciences.
