About the position

The Heat Transfer/Mechanical Design Engineer at Holtec International is a pivotal role focused on the design of heat exchanger equipment specifically for the power industry. This position requires a thorough understanding of client and Holtec specifications to accurately determine design requirements. The engineer will coordinate and perform design work to meet project specifications, maintain configuration control, and ensure that all target dates are achieved. This role involves overseeing the preparation and review of design concept drawings, ensuring that input from various technical disciplines is integrated effectively. Additionally, the engineer will oversee the preparation and review of detailed fabrication drawings that will be utilized by manufacturers to fabricate Holtec equipment. Collaboration is key in this role, as the engineer will assist team members in their responsibilities, ensuring that projects are executed accurately and in a timely manner. The position demands a high level of attention to detail, as the engineer will be responsible for producing error-free documents and designs. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential, as the engineer will work closely with other engineers and fabricators to develop designs and drawings. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in mechanical design principles and practices, including knowledge of interference checks, tolerance stack-ups, fits, and GD&T. A minimum of two years of experience using SolidWorks CAD software to create both 3D solid models and 2D detailed drawings is required, along with experience in designing heat exchangers in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, specifically Sections VIII and/or III. This role is not only about technical skills but also about the ability to manage multiple tasks and complete work with minimal supervision, making it a challenging yet rewarding position within Holtec International.

Responsibilities

  • Review client and Holtec specifications to determine design requirements.
  • Coordinate and perform design work to fulfill project requirements, maintain configuration control and achieve target dates.
  • Oversee preparation of and perform review of design concept drawings for equipment using input from various technical disciplines.
  • Oversee preparation of and perform review of detailed fabrication drawings to be used by manufacturers to fabricate Holtec equipment.
  • Assist design team members with their responsibilities for an accurate and timely execution of projects.

Requirements

  • Formal training in mechanical design or engineering (Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree).
  • Excellent attention to detail and capable of producing error-free documents.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent math, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of engineering design practices and principles (e.g. interference checks, tolerance stack-ups, fits, GD&T).
  • Experience working with engineers and fabricators to develop designs and drawings.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and complete work in a timely fashion with minimal supervision.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience using SolidWorks CAD software to create both 3D solid models and 2D detailed drawings.
  • Experience with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code designing Section VIII and/or III heat exchangers.
