About the position

The Heat Treat Operator Level I is responsible for overseeing the heat treatment processes of open and closed die forgings, as well as in-house conversions of ingots, billets, and rolled rings. This role requires minimal supervision and involves monitoring and controlling heat treat furnaces, preparing furnace loads, and conducting inspections to ensure quality and compliance with safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee heat treatment of open and closed die forgings and in-house conversions of ingots, billets, and rolled rings.
  • Control and monitor all heat treat furnaces, understanding their limits and capabilities.
  • Prepare furnace loads based on material type and quantity allowable in the furnace.
  • Verify piece count and the straightness and flatness of parts before and after heat treatment.
  • Perform cold and hot straightening as necessary.
  • Conduct hardness inspections of materials.
  • Oversee furnace light up and monitoring.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or three to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Effective communication skills to speak before management and other employees.
  • Mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and to interpret bar graphs.
  • Common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Problem-solving skills to deal with several concrete variables in standardized situations.
