About the position

The Heat Treat Operator at Monogram Aerospace Fasteners is responsible for operating various types of heat treating equipment under the direction of the Heat Treating Specialist. This role involves making necessary settings and adjustments to ensure that the mechanical properties of materials meet the specifications outlined in the documentation. The operator will check incoming materials, determine the appropriate furnace settings, and monitor the heat treating equipment to maintain proper adjustments throughout the process. In addition to operating the equipment, the Heat Treat Operator will record temperature and time cycle data, ensuring that all information is posted according to established procedures. The role requires moving products or heat treating supplies within the department and performing daily maintenance and preventative maintenance on the equipment. The operator will also be responsible for visually checking product specifications using precision measuring instruments to ensure compliance with quality standards. The Heat Treat Operator plays a crucial role in maintaining production quality and quantity, actively participating in team activities aimed at improving processes and productivity. This position requires good communication skills to effectively collaborate with other team members and to train less experienced employees in heat treating operations. Safety is a top priority, and the operator must adhere to company safety rules and maintain good housekeeping practices in the work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Checks incoming materials and determines proper furnace settings according to heat treat specifications.
  • Monitors heat treating equipment to ensure proper settings and adjustments are maintained.
  • Collaborates with personnel to determine proper heat treat procedures for all materials.
  • Records temperature and time cycle data as per established procedures.
  • Moves product or heat treating supplies within the department or to designated areas of the plant.
  • Performs daily maintenance and preventative maintenance on heat treating equipment and tools, effecting minor repairs as necessary.
  • Checks product specifications for tensile strength, shear tolerance, micro hardness, etc., using precision measuring instruments.
  • Directs cleaning operations before, during, and after heat treating processes.
  • Responsible for production quality and quantity of workpieces processed.
  • Participates in problem solving and team activities to improve heat treating operations.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to read and write English at a level required for shop documents and computer software entry.
  • Capability to apply mathematical operations using fractions, decimals, and temperature degrees as required by heat treating operations.
  • Equivalent to journeyman level trade school with courses in heat treatment.
  • 3-5 years of training or equivalent skills and knowledge in the set-up and operation of heat treating equipment.
  • Demonstrated capability to set-up and operate heat treating equipment to the level of journeyman.
  • Ability to read precision measuring instruments and gauges, as well as engineering diagrams related to heat treating operations.
