About the position

The Heating & Air-Conditioning Technician (HVAC) at Lodi Unified School District is responsible for performing journey-level mechanical, plumbing, and electrical work related to the repair, inspection, servicing, maintenance, installation, and alteration of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and related equipment. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of HVAC systems and the ability to work independently while adhering to safety regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Install, service, inspect, regulate, maintain and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
  • Calibrate, clean, repair and replace electric, pneumatic and low-voltage controls, thermostats, timers, air handling and distribution equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems; repair or replace defective parts in units, appliances and equipment and controls.
  • Check and adjust temperatures or air conditioning equipment, furnaces, boilers and thermostats.
  • Cut and thread pipe; perform welding, soldering and brazing.
  • Maintain a preventive maintenance program for District heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems.
  • Operate a variety of equipment and machinery such as various meters and testing devices, pressure gauges, vacuum pumps and hand tools.
  • Service electrical components, such as relays, contacts, starters, breakers and fuses.
  • Install, repair, service and maintain gas-fired kilns and water heaters and swimming pool heaters.
  • Maintain routine records to maintenance and repair activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by completion of apprenticeship program or college/technical school courses in electrical and mechanical technology.
  • Extensive journey-level experience with commercial heating and cooling systems, steam and hot water boilers, chillers, pumps, motors, and electrical, pneumatic and electronic controls.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Refrigerant Recovery/Reclamation certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with gas kitchen equipment installation and maintenance.
  • Ability to work from blueprints and electrical schematics.
