About the position

The Structures Project Engineer will play a crucial role in the successful execution of a large-scale infrastructure project valued at over $250M. This position involves managing subcontractors, ensuring quality control, and facilitating seamless project delivery for structural components such as bridges, retaining walls, and foundations. The role is essential for maintaining project schedules, safety standards, and compliance with specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the general contractor and structural subcontractors, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
  • Manage and coordinate multiple structural subcontractors to ensure alignment with project schedules, safety standards, and quality expectations.
  • Review and approve subcontractor schedules, ensuring they meet overall project deadlines and milestones.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance, addressing any deviations from contract terms, safety standards, or quality expectations.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager, Superintendent, and other engineers to ensure smooth execution of all structural components of the project.
  • Coordinate and facilitate regular subcontractor meetings to review progress, resolve issues, and update schedules.
  • Assist in the preparation of project schedules, ensuring timely completion of structural elements, and work with the scheduling team to make necessary adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and applicable codes for all structural elements.
  • Maintain accurate project records, including daily logs, RFI responses, submittals, and progress reports specific to structural components.
  • Ensure that all subcontractors submit required project documentation (e.g., schedules, shop drawings, material submittals) in a timely manner.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing progress reports for structural elements, providing regular updates to the Project Manager and senior management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience working as a project engineer in heavy civil construction with a focus on structural elements (bridges, foundations, retaining walls, etc.).
  • Proven experience managing structural subcontractors on large-scale construction projects, preferably in the range of $100M+.
  • Strong understanding of structural construction methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Proficiency in construction management software and scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with subcontractors and team members.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving project challenges.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and experience enforcing safety practices on-site.
