About the position

The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction vehicles and equipment. This role requires a Class A CDL and a DOT Medical Card, with a focus on ensuring the operational efficiency of various heavy machinery. The position involves both fieldwork and shop duties, emphasizing safety and compliance with company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect heavy vehicles and equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Repair heavy construction vehicles and equipment such as bulldozers, cranes, front-end loaders, motor graders, tractor-trailers, water trucks, and other heavy equipment.
  • Adjust, repair, and replace engines, fuel systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, suspension, steering and transmissions.
  • Disassemble and assemble vehicles and equipment parts using hoists, hand tools, pneumatic and electric tools, and instruments.
  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including lubrication and oil changes in accordance with maintenance schedules.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment to diagnose and ensure operating efficiency.
  • Clean and maintain equipment, tools, and the general work area.
  • Prepare and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
  • Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.

Requirements

  • A valid (U.S issued, Alaska compliant) Class A CDL is required.
  • A current DOT Medical Card is required.
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • The ability to work 84 hours a week on a 3x3 rotation is required.
  • A North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience troubleshooting and repairing power trains, hydraulic, air and electrical systems required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience maintaining, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment such as: Kenworth and Western Star Tractors, Link belt, Grove Cranes (50 Ton to 150 Ton), Cat D-9 dozers, excavators, 14&16H blades and vibratory compactors, Genie manlifts, Westmark crude / diesel tankers, Westmark 325bbl. Vac. Trailers and Volvo L-70 to L-220 loaders.
  • Strong knowledge and experience utilizing Cat, Volvo, Cummins, John Deere, and Detroit diagnostic troubleshooting programs required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three (3) or more years' experience working in a Construction/Industrial setting, the Oil and Gas/Petrochemical industry, and/or the North Slope/Arctic environment is preferred.
  • Ten (10) or more years repairing Cat, Cummins, John Deere, Volvo, Detroit, and Kubota engines as well as Cat, Volvo, Genie, Link Belt, Kenworth, and other heavy equipment is preferred.
  • Dealership experience or Vocational Training is preferred.
