About the position

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station. This role involves transferring, spreading, covering, loading, and compacting waste or soil while adhering to safety standards and company policies.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-operation inspection of the equipment to ensure it is clean and operational.
• Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders.
• Continuously monitor waste for unacceptable materials.
• Monitor the condition of the equipment to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime.
• Perform and document minor service on equipment, referring complex issues to maintenance.
• Complete Equipment Condition Reports and report necessary repairs to the supervisor.
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure the work area is clean and organized at the end of each shift.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Two years of prior related experience in heavy equipment operation.
• One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
• Good customer service skills to meet and exceed expectations.
• Good time management skills to complete responsibilities efficiently and safely.
• Ability to adhere to company policies and promote safety standards.
