About the position

The Heavy Equipment Operator / Crane Operator position at Watco involves operating and maintaining various heavy equipment, including crawler cranes, front-end loaders, and forklifts, primarily at the West Memphis Terminal. The role is crucial for the safe and efficient loading and discharge of cargo from marine barges and trucks, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and operational standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain crawler cranes, front-end loaders, forklifts, and other equipment used in loading and discharging cargo.
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, including lubricating, cleaning, and changing cables.
• Ensure the safe operation of cranes and equipment, especially during loading and unloading activities.
• Inspect all moving parts, cables, and systems of the crane and other equipment for safety and functionality.
• Communicate regularly with supervisors and team members via 2-way radio regarding operations and safety.
• Troubleshoot equipment problems and perform minor repairs as needed.
• Work extended hours and weekends during peak seasons as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 1 year experience operating cranes and heavy equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors and in potentially hazardous environments.
• Knowledge of safe boom and cable weight limitations.

Nice-to-haves
