As a Heavy Equipment Operator/Driller Trainee, you will have the opportunity to learn and grow within a stable and expanding company that values its employees and promotes from within. In this role, you will be responsible for operating heavy construction equipment, including backhoes, skid steers, excavators, and loaders. You will also learn the intricacies of the drilling and blasting industry, gaining hands-on experience that will set you up for future advancement. The position requires a safety-minded individual who can work effectively in various weather conditions and is willing to travel for work. You will receive job-specific training from experienced Superintendents, Blasting Supervisors, and Drill Operators, ensuring you have the skills necessary to succeed in this field. Your daily responsibilities will include performing maintenance on equipment, adhering to safety policies, learning drill patterns, and communicating effectively with your team. You will also be expected to complete necessary paperwork accurately and on time, demonstrating your ability to manage field accounting tasks. This position offers a competitive hourly rate of $20 - $22, along with a stipend for travel, making it an attractive opportunity for those looking to build a career in the construction and drilling industry.

Responsibilities

  • Perform job-specific instructions provided by Superintendents, Blasting Supervisor, or Drill Operators.
  • Conduct daily maintenance activities for safe and efficient operation of assigned equipment.
  • Adhere to Company Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Learn drill patterns and terminology, then execute drill pattern and layout as established by the Blaster Foreman.
  • Inventory accessories and understand the cost of accessories and maintenance drill accessories.
  • Communicate problems and terrain conditions to the Blaster/Foreman.
  • Understand the Field Accounting system and accurately complete and submit timely paperwork: drill reports, hole sheets, and a signed timecard.
  • Coordinate supplies with the Blaster.
  • Carry all tools and supplies as needed.
  • Participate in meetings as required: Foreman's, Safety, Job Specific, and Daily Heads-Up.
  • Complete Driller I training within the designated period.
  • Work unsupervised while maintaining a sense of urgency.

Requirements

  • Experience operating heavy construction equipment such as backhoe, skid steer, excavators, or loaders is helpful.
  • Valid Driver's License with own transportation.
  • Experience as a construction laborer.
  • High level of common sense relative to equipment and machinery operation.
  • Mechanical aptitude based on past experience around equipment, motors, hydraulic, electrical systems is desired.
  • Must successfully complete ATF screenings.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with earth moving construction equipment, farm equipment, or timber harvesting equipment.
