About the position
The Heavy Equipment Operator position at the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) is a critical role within the Engineering and Construction Services division. This position primarily involves the operation of heavy equipment and large vehicles, including bulldozers, frontend loaders, ditchers, road graders, dump trucks, and drilling equipment. The operator will be responsible for delivering construction equipment, job site trailers, and tools to various mobile construction job sites across the state of Georgia. The daily reporting location for this position is the ECS Macon Warehouse/Shop, situated behind Central State Prison in Macon, GA. Candidates for this role must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement and have a minimum of 12 months of driving experience. Heavy equipment knowledge and operational experience are also essential for success in this position. The operator will be expected to maintain safety standards while performing their duties and ensure that all equipment is operated in compliance with state regulations. Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment and large vehicles such as bulldozers, frontend loaders, and dump trucks.
- Deliver construction equipment, job site trailers, and tools to statewide mobile construction job sites.
- Maintain safety standards while operating heavy machinery.
- Complete daily reports and documentation related to equipment usage and job site activities.
- Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Six months of experience in the operation of heavy equipment and large vehicles.
- Possession of a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement is required.
- Minimum of 12 months driving experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment operation and safety protocols.
