Heavy Equipment Operator III

About the position

The purpose of this class is responsible for the operation of heavy equipment to assist in the construction, repair and maintenance of county streets, drainage systems, beaches, and related infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains road paving construction equipment including motor graders, rollers, loaders, tractors, dump trucks, tandem dump trucks, backhoes, water trucks, paving machine, reclaimer, dozer and excavators.
• Operate haul truck, including load, tie down, and transport of equipment.
• Patches roadways, cuts brush, and picks up and disposes of trash and brush.
• Loads and unloads large amounts and weights of materials and debris to and from trucks.
• Drives a medium sized truck to transport personnel, supplies, and materials.
• May flag traffic as needed.
• May perform housekeeping and facilities maintenance functions.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Requirements

• Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Requires two years of experience operating heavy equipment in the construction, maintenance or repairs of roadways, bridges, and operating heavy and light construction equipment or closely related experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Must possess and maintain a valid state commercial driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
• Requires FEMA ICS 100, 200, 300 and 400 certifications.
