About the position
The Heavy Equipment Operator I position at York County's Public Works Department involves operating various heavy equipment to support solid waste disposal services. The role includes performing maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, ensuring safe operation, and responding to emergency calls as needed. This full-time position requires working in various weather conditions and includes mandatory Saturday shifts.
Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment and machinery for landfill operations.
- Perform maintenance tasks including grading, paving, and constructing roads and bridges.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and tools.
- Respond to after-hours emergency calls and work on-call during inclement weather.
- Prepare and submit daily and monthly work reports and complete work orders.
- Set up road construction sites and control traffic flow as needed.
- Assist other County Departments with maintenance tasks.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three years of experience operating heavy or light duty equipment or equivalent education and training.
- Valid state Class B Commercial driver's license; Class A preferred.
- Valid CPR and First Aid Certification.
