About the position
The Heavy Equipment Operator at Watco is responsible for the safe operation of various heavy machinery, including front end loaders, skid steers, and water trucks, primarily in a rail and logistics environment. This role involves handling bulk and breakbulk products, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and maintaining effective communication with supervisors and team members. The position requires a commitment to customer service principles and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment while demonstrating reliable attendance and performance.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy equipment including front end loaders, skid steers, and water trucks.
- Respond appropriately in case of emergencies and follow safety protocols.
- Communicate regularly with supervisors and team members via 2-way radio.
- Handle materials and work various hours as needed to accomplish tasks.
- Follow written and verbal instructions to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
- Demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.
- Read, write, and communicate in English and understand basic math.
- Learn from directions, observations, and mistakes, applying procedures using good judgment.
- Maintain compliance with Watco Safety and Operating principles.
- Work independently or as part of a team, interacting appropriately with others.
Requirements
- Experience operating heavy equipment (skid steer, front end loader, etc.) preferred but not required.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or team members.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must be available to work a rotating shift and in all types of weather.
Benefits
- Hourly pay ranging from $20.00 to $27.00 based on experience.
- Rotating schedule of 3 days on and 2 days off, including every other weekend.
