About the position

The Heavy Equipment Operator at Watco is responsible for the safe operation of various heavy machinery, including front end loaders, skid steers, and water trucks, primarily in a rail and logistics environment. This role involves handling bulk and breakbulk products, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and maintaining effective communication with supervisors and team members. The position requires a commitment to customer service principles and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment while demonstrating reliable attendance and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate heavy equipment including front end loaders, skid steers, and water trucks.
  • Respond appropriately in case of emergencies and follow safety protocols.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors and team members via 2-way radio.
  • Handle materials and work various hours as needed to accomplish tasks.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
  • Demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.
  • Read, write, and communicate in English and understand basic math.
  • Learn from directions, observations, and mistakes, applying procedures using good judgment.
  • Maintain compliance with Watco Safety and Operating principles.
  • Work independently or as part of a team, interacting appropriately with others.

Requirements

  • Experience operating heavy equipment (skid steer, front end loader, etc.) preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or team members.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must be available to work a rotating shift and in all types of weather.

Benefits

  • Hourly pay ranging from $20.00 to $27.00 based on experience.
  • Rotating schedule of 3 days on and 2 days off, including every other weekend.
