About The Position
The Heavy Equipment Operator position located in Johnson City involves performing various tasks that require physical labor and the operation of heavy machinery. The operator will be responsible for basic maintenance on equipment, which includes maintaining lubricators, changing teeth and cutting edges, and changing filters. The role requires the operation of different types of heavy equipment, including but not limited to Front End Loaders, Bulldozers, Excavators, and Articulated Mining Trucks. Candidates should have prior experience operating this type of equipment and be familiar with sand and gravel plant operations, particularly in moderate to large scale excavation projects. Physical requirements for this position are significant, as the operator will be required to walk, sit, lift, push, pull, and climb to a considerable degree. The job entails exerting varying amounts of force, with occasional lifting of 50-100 pounds, frequent lifting of 25-50 pounds, and continual lifting of 10-20 pounds. The operator must also be available to work a flexible schedule based on production needs and must adhere to a consistent safety culture. The work environment includes continuous exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, and outdoor conditions, necessitating the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while on the job. Communication is key in this role, as the operator must regularly talk and hear to ensure safety around heavy rolling equipment and to communicate effectively with employees and customers. Additionally, the operator must be able to perform all job functions, which may include pushing, turning, and pulling of controls. A health physical, including a back x-ray, hearing test, and drug/alcohol screening, is required for this position. The operator must also be willing to take on other tasks as assigned.
