About the position

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating various types of heavy machinery, including trucks, loaders, dozers, and excavators. This role involves performing maintenance checks, cleaning equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The operator must also interact courteously with the public and address any complaints regarding service quality.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner to minimize risk of injury and property damage.
• Perform daily safety and maintenance checks on equipment.
• Clean and maintain heavy equipment as scheduled or required.
• Ensure equipment is safely stored and secured after use.
• Notify the Supervisor of any maintenance or repair needs.
• Practice workplace safety and maintain inventory.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
• Minimum 1 year experience in heavy equipment operation.
• Mathematical abilities for basic measurements and calculations.
• Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
• Strong reasoning ability to evaluate solutions and approaches to problems.
• Alertness and awareness of surroundings.
• Active listening skills to understand and respond appropriately to others.
• Ability to select and use appropriate training methods for learning or teaching new skills.
• Skill in active learning to apply new information for problem solving and decision making.
• Ability to determine necessary tools and equipment for tasks.
