Heavy Equipment Operator

About the position

The Heavy Equipment Operator at Dawson Construction LLC is responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery, including excavators, dozers, and loaders, while also engaging in ground work when not operating equipment. This role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement in operations to ensure efficient project delivery in Juneau or Ketchikan, Alaska.

Responsibilities

• Safely and skillfully operates excavators, dozers, skid steers, loaders, haul trucks, compactors, and other heavy/light construction equipment.
• Works on the ground with crew when not operating equipment, including tasks such as laboring, pipe laying, and checking grade.
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline workflows, and provide great customer service.
• Consistently shows up for work on time and stays for the duration of the shift.
• Exemplifies a culture of hard work and continuous improvement while fostering stability and sustainable growth.
• Ensures safety is a priority by maintaining equipment, following operating procedures, and reporting safety concerns to supervisors.
• Fosters a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Requirements

• Experience operating heavy construction equipment such as excavators, dozers, and loaders.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team and communicate effectively.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in laboring tasks such as pipe laying and checking grade.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and incident reporting.
