About the position
The Heavy Forklift Operator position at Gulf Stream Marine involves operating a large forklift (30k+) for the safe handling and transfer of various cargo types, including steel products and containers. The role requires a valid TWIC Card and proficiency in material handling, with a strong emphasis on safety and communication. The operator will be traveling 100% of the time to various locations across Texas, ensuring efficient operations in diverse environments.
Responsibilities
- Operate a 30K+ forklift safely and efficiently.
- Handle all types of commodities, including steel products, using diverse attachments.
- Perform loading and unloading operations in vessels, barges, terminals, and docks.
- Ensure proper startup and shutdown procedures for the forklift.
- Maintain three points of contact when mounting/dismounting the machine.
- Stack loads safely and squarely, ensuring they are deposited correctly.
- Check equipment and perform maintenance checks according to procedures.
- Communicate any machine issues to supervisors or maintenance staff.
- Follow all company safety requirements and policies, including 'Stop Work Authority'.
- Maintain awareness of surroundings and ensure safe operations at all times.
Requirements
- Two years of experience operating material handling heavy equipment.
- Six months of experience handling steel products.
- Valid TWIC Card required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including extended hours, nights, holidays, and weekends.
- Strong initiative and ability to work independently with limited supervision.
