About the position

The Heber/Park City Hospice Volunteer position is a part-time role that plays a crucial part in providing compassionate end-of-life care to patients and their families. Volunteers are integral members of the hospice team, offering support and companionship to enhance the quality of life for those facing terminal illness. This role involves various responsibilities, including patient care, respite care for caregivers, bereavement support, and administrative assistance to hospice staff.

Responsibilities

• Offer companionship and support to hospice patients and their families through social visits, music therapy, reading, playing games, or writing personal/family history.
• Provide respite care to relieve caregivers, allowing them time to run errands, exercise, or have personal time.
• Support families through the death and grieving process, including creating hand molds of patients and facilitating group meetings and memorial services.
• Assist with administrative tasks such as sending birthday cards, assembling mailing packets, making supply calls to patients, and helping with hospice events.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Able to work independently within the scope of assigned duties.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good listening skills and ability to be an active listener.
• Maintain and respect professional relationships.
• Sound mental and emotional health.
• Sensitive to patient and family situations and dynamics.
• Able to stay calm in stressful situations.
• Self-motivated, flexible, and adaptable.
• Must be able to commit to at least 2 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months.
