About the position

UFP Technologies is seeking a Help Desk Technician to join our team in Grand Rapids, MI. As a designer and custom manufacturer of solutions for medical devices and sterile packaging, UFP Technologies plays a crucial role in the medical device supply chain. The Help Desk Technician will be responsible for supervising the helpdesk system on a daily basis, addressing IT-related issues as they arise, and providing exceptional customer service to our employees. This position requires a strong understanding of Active Directory and Office 365, as well as the ability to communicate technical solutions in a user-friendly manner. The role is 100% on-site, and candidates must live within a commutable distance to our Grand Rapids location. In this role, the Help Desk Technician will establish and maintain a working knowledge of the system's screens, navigation, procedures, and processing requirements. The technician will supervise the day-to-day operations of the helpdesk system, field incoming requests, and act as a dispatcher, escalating calls when necessary and coordinating timely resolutions to users' problems. The technician will also assist with handling first-tier issues, answering inquiries regarding computer software and hardware operation, and installing and troubleshooting desktop hardware, printers, and phones. Additionally, the technician will install and troubleshoot Windows 10/11 operating systems and desktop applications, ensuring clear communication of technical solutions to users. The Help Desk Technician will perform consistent follow-up with users to ensure complete resolution and user satisfaction, and will create and manage user security in Active Directory and business applications. This position is vital to maintaining the efficiency of our IT operations and ensuring that our employees have the support they need to perform their jobs effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a working knowledge of the system's screens, navigation, procedures, and processing requirements.
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the helpdesk system.
  • Field incoming requests; act as a dispatcher, escalating calls where appropriate and coordinating timely resolutions to users' problems.
  • Assist with handling 1st tier issues, answering users' inquiries regarding computer software and hardware operation to resolve problems.
  • Install and troubleshoot desktop hardware, printers, phones, etc.
  • Install and troubleshoot Windows 10 / 11 Operating Systems including installing desktop applications.
  • Communicate clearly any technical solutions in a user-friendly, professional manner.
  • Perform consistent follow-up with users to ensure complete resolution and user satisfaction.
  • Create and manage user security in Active Directory and business applications.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 1 - 2 years' experience supporting Windows 10 / 11, including software and driver installation preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory needed; must have experience creating and modifying users.
  • Experience in a customer service environment required.
  • Solid understanding of network protocols (i.e. DNS, DHCP, and TCPIP).
  • Working knowledge of network hardware such as switches, firewalls, access points, etc.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with switches and routers (preferably Cisco).
  • A+, Network+, or Security+ certifications.
