About the position

The Hematology/Oncology Physician at the Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center in Lynchburg, Virginia, is responsible for providing comprehensive cancer care within a collaborative, community-focused environment. The role emphasizes patient-centered care, excellence in service delivery, and participation in clinical trials, while also offering opportunities for leadership and professional growth. The physician will work primarily in an outpatient setting with some inpatient consults, supported by a strong administrative and clinical team.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for patients with hematological and oncological conditions.
• Participate in outpatient and inpatient consultations as needed.
• Engage in clinical trials and research initiatives.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including radiation oncologists, surgeons, and pathologists.
• Attend and contribute to tumor board meetings and conferences.
• Oversee and mentor advanced practice providers (APPs) and nursing staff.
• Ensure adherence to emergency protocols for adverse drug reactions (ADRs).
• Utilize electronic documentation and order entry systems for patient management.

Requirements

• Completion of medical degree and residency/fellowship training in Hematology/Oncology.
• MD/DO with certification by an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in the primary specialty.
• Board certified or in the process of certifying.
