About the position

The Herd Manager is responsible for the management and daily care of the Equestrian horse herd at Oklahoma State University. This role involves supervising Equestrian student workers, including graduate students, and coordinating maintenance activities of the facility. The position requires travel for hauling horses and demands a flexible work schedule, including early mornings, nights, and weekends, especially during competition seasons.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and care for the Equestrian horse herd on a daily basis.
  • Supervise Equestrian student workers, including graduate students.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities of the facility, including horse stalls and fencing.
  • Travel for hauling horses both in and out of state as needed.
  • Perform feeding and daily care during the off-season and manage competition logistics during the season.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED with four years of work experience in equine management.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Extensive knowledge of horses and livestock.
  • Experience with running and maintaining a tractor and related equipment.
  • Experience with driving a truck and trailer and hauling livestock.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
