About the position

Shaner Hotels is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team in the Hershey area, supporting our Courtyard by Marriott Chocolate Ave and the Hampton Inn & Suites Near the Park. This role is crucial in ensuring that our sales department operates smoothly and effectively, contributing to the overall success of our properties. The ideal candidate will be available to work a flexible schedule, which includes weekends, holidays, and varied shifts, to meet the needs of the company's business operations. In this position, you will help ensure compliance with and completion of all daily operational procedures by the Sales department. You will maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all Shaner Hotels, franchise, and hotel/departmental policies and procedures, ensuring that the Sales team is well-informed. A key aspect of your role will involve understanding current customers and accounts, particularly those from corporations, agencies, associations, tour operations, sports teams, and other groups or organizations that purchase hotel services. You will also play a vital role in determining and implementing strategies for pursuing additional business or market segments that the hotel should target. This includes establishing special packages or programs to boost occupancy during slow periods and creating advertising through various channels such as newspapers, direct mail, and billboards to support these initiatives. Attending trade shows, chamber of commerce or civic events, and other local organizations will also be part of your responsibilities to promote hotel sales. Effective communication with the General Manager, all other Department Managers, and staff is essential, along with performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and varied shifts, as required to meet the needs of the Company's business operations.
  • Ensure compliance with and completion of all daily operational procedures by the Sales department.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all Shaner Hotels, franchise, and hotel/departmental policies and procedures, ensuring that the Sales team is informed.
  • Understand current customers and accounts, particularly those from corporations, agencies, associations, tour operations, sports teams, and other groups or organizations that purchase hotel services.
  • Determine and implement what additional business or market segments the hotel should pursue.
  • Establish special packages or programs to boost occupancy during slow periods.
  • Create advertising through newspapers, direct mail, billboards, etc. in support of these programs.
  • Attend trade shows, chamber of commerce or civic events, and other local organizations in support of hotel sales.
  • Ensure communication with the General Manager, all other Department Managers, and staff.
  • Manage the development, solicitation, and maintenance of accounts in assigned market segments to meet or exceed budgeted goals.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years progressive experience in sales, preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate with guests, management, and co-workers to their understanding.
  • High school graduate or equivalent; college degree in hospitality management or business preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
  • Familiarity with the local economy and market conditions.
  • Working knowledge of hotel operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Familiarity with Sales and Marketing tools.
  • Knowledge of organizing set up requirements from information on B.E.O.'s.
  • Knowledge of local activities and attractions appropriate for clientele.
