About the position

The System Software Research Associate (Intern) role at Hewlett Packard Labs is designed for highly qualified, self-motivated individuals to contribute to research in computing systems architecture, particularly focusing on sustainability technologies. Interns will engage in developing software solutions for large-scale distributed systems and analytics, while collaborating with diverse teams to bring innovative ideas to practice. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic research environment, contributing to projects that have a significant impact on technology advancements.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate, research, and develop software for large-scale distributed systems and storage systems.
  • Create software artifacts including proof-of-concept demonstrators and programming frameworks.
  • Contribute to data processing engines and scalable data services.
  • Engage in technology transfer and implementation of innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with research teams and external partners to align with HPE's innovation community.

Requirements

  • Pursuing or recently completed BS/MS/PhD degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., computer science, electrical engineering, math, physics, statistics, mechanical engineering).
  • Experience in developing proofs-of-concept and innovative solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate and carry out leadership research, evidenced by publications in top-tier conferences or journals.
  • Strong systems programming and software engineering skills, particularly in C and C++.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of programming frameworks and libraries such as HPC Mercury, ZeroMQ, CUDA, Libfabric, Python, Pytorch, Simplivity, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with GPU programming.
  • Strong track record of working independently and in teams.
