About the position

The East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) is seeking a creative and passionate Art/Graphic Design Teacher for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. This part-time position will involve teaching high school students both traditional and digital art forms, with a focus on inspiring and engaging students through hands-on and digital mediums. The ideal candidate will have experience in various art techniques and will be responsible for regularly assessing students' growth and using data to inform instruction. The role also includes supporting individual behavior needs and engaging with students and families during personal appointments, all while promoting a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for students, staff, and partner organizations. As a Lead Teacher, you will play a critical role in ensuring our scholars grow academically and have a positive learning experience. You will develop and deliver engaging art and graphic design lessons that incorporate both traditional and digital art techniques. The curriculum will expose students to a range of artistic styles and tools, including painting, drawing, graphic design software, and digital media. You will encourage student participation and creativity in both individual and group projects, providing constructive feedback to help students develop their artistic abilities. In addition to instructional duties, you will manage classroom supplies and resources effectively to support student learning, set clear expectations, and maintain a supportive and organized classroom environment. You will also attend periodic meetings with the High School Program Manager to discuss student progress and curriculum updates, contributing to program evaluations and providing input on potential improvements. This position is an in-person role, scheduled weekly on Thursdays from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm, with an additional 3 hours of paid planning and meeting/admin time per week.

Responsibilities

  • Manage classroom supplies and resources effectively to support student learning.
  • Attend periodic meetings with the High School Program Manager to discuss student progress and curriculum updates.
  • Contribute to program evaluations and provide input on potential improvements.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in traditional art techniques (e.g., drawing, painting) and digital art tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, digital drawing tablets).
  • Experience in graphic design and a strong understanding of design principles and software.
  • Ability to create and implement diverse art projects that span both traditional and digital mediums.
  • Previous experience teaching art or graphic design to high school students is preferred.
  • Ability to engage and inspire students through innovative teaching methods, including hands-on projects and digital art exploration.
  • Passion for art education, with a commitment to nurturing students' creative expression and technical skills in both traditional and digital formats.
